"Hi-Tech" Visas - H1B Empty "Hi-Tech" Visas - H1B

Post by Marathadi-Saamiyaar Sat Apr 06, 2013 11:01 pm

.....is abused and misused by Indian companies to bring in low-level code coolies. I am aware of a few with H1B visas still on the bench in India waiting for "projects. So technically, the 2 are "employed" by these 2 Biggie IT companies per INS. Actually, it is like reserving a seat with a towel in a movie theater or in a train.

Hope they remove the H1B and make it available to those who complete at least a masters degree in the US. That way it will benefit various segments, and the guys will have to fight for job and also will make them better people after struggling for a couple of years.

the two men interviewed by NPR in that segment that were ranting about almost all of H1-B the indian IT companies gobble up, and emphasized that this deprivied US citizens of jobs, were desis who started off saying that 'I am a us citizen with desi accents that makes them suspect of their own visas as h-1 until recently.

yes...one guy was running an "in-Sourcing" company. But, it is a fact that H1B has nothing to do with Highly qualified people - as it is really intended. Clearly, the Companies are abusing it and those who come on H1B are not the greatest caliber - mostly from 3rd and 4th rate schools armed with an engineering degree and 3 mnths of some kind of certificate.

Better to give H1Bs to those who get MS or PhD - at least they would have SLIGHTLY better understanding of the US System, learnt a little more and little more ethical.

I am for outright ban on H1Bs. If someone wants to come they can always come on L-1 visa. After all the Cognizants and Wipros send "their" employees to work at otehr companies but still get paid by the parent companies. Why give them H1B?

Bwahahaha...Unkil, whatever gave you the idea that H1B is for "highly qualified people"?? It's simply a mechanism to bring in people to do work that the Americans can't (or won't do). And there just aren't enough American programmers to meet the industry's demands. How do we know this? From how programmers received the highest wage increase in a decade in 2012. And the biggest hikes (12% plus) were not for "highly qualified" folks working on cutting edge technologies in the Valley, but for code coolies willing to work in such boondocks as St Louis, Phoenix, Milwaukee etc (just like you).

Oh right. Like they'll agree to be code coolies after all those fancy qualifications.

read closely and carefully.

read the definition of H1B

You are right about how these companies are using this H1B, and that was exactly what I was also saying.

I did read it closely. Which part of "Workers in a specialty occupation" suggests to you that the H1B was intended only for "highly qualified people"?

...Rite....next you will argue 8h grade is highly qualified (better than 5th grade) and give H1B.

LOL SwamiAvare...you are way outdated. These days most companies don't sponsor H1-B coz it is expensive and the chances of getting the visa is much much much less. The latest misuse is with L1 Visas. And those who study masters here dont have to auto qualify as smart ppl - they have to go thru hassles of mega tution and live with less than basics to get that damn degree. At any time an Indian qualified MCA is much better than US MS. They might look good on papers and can get you a initial job..., anyways.
