I have been watching the carnatic music competition (stress is on manodharma) conducted by the Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel (SVBC) over the last few months (it's not over yet). Singers from all the southern states are participating, and M.S. Sheela and Modumudi Sudhakar (grandson of Balamurali Krishna's guru) are the judges. Two young girls really impressed me with their voice cultures, perfect shruti alignment, tala knowledge, Telugu/Sanskrit diction, and balanced approach to singing. They are Anahita Ravindran from Chennai, and S.K. Mahati from Calicut. The Chennai girl is a student of Chitraveena Ravikiran, and the Kerala girl is a student of Tamarakkad Krishna Namboodri. These girls are going to go places.
