As I was searching for tirupati venkata kavulu padyalu., I found a new talent. Gummadi gopalakrishna. He came from a very poor family and with no classical training. For the past three decades he established himself among the great drama (natakam) talent.
the above link is for his performance in Krishna rayabaram. You get to listen to others talented actors.
You can search for his padyalu on you tube. He is very popular as sri Krishna and srinathudu.
would like to hear your review of his renditions. If you can introduce such talent, I would appreciate that.

Many thanks for posting on him. I wonder if he is related to Gummadi. You can see his samskaaram when he talks. One good thing that can happen with the separation of T from AP will be the elimination of Turaka from our vocabulary. I hope everyone will speak like Gopalakrishna garu and revive the glory of the language.

Just listened to his rendition of "Jandaapai kapiraaju....". He sings in the style of Abbuuri. Wonderful to hear those old padyaalu.

I used to go to vidhi natakalu in vijayawada. Our parents used to give us some money to be dropped in collection. During dassara they blocked of eluru road. My guess is that there used to be 2 to 3 k people and collection upwards of 5k. I thought are died over time. It is great to know this unique art form is still around and this talented artist is thriving.

Apparently, he is embarking on creating DVDs of the stage plays. That would hopefully preserve this art form. People in rural areas are fond of these padyaalu. Some sing them when they herd cattle, etc. Some even participate in the plays. One farmer acted as Nakshatrakudu in Harischandra, when I was a kid. His dialogue goes like this:  Arischandaa, dabbicchedavaa, eganookedavaa?  LOL

Once Gummadi Gopalakrishna was asked how he managed to render the following poem from Bhagavatam so perfectly.

He said he was taught to practice it keeping a large "usirikaaya" in his mouth:-)
