all these are from a recent puzzle from the daily telegraph. i have posted only the ones i cracked and so they may not cover all types of clues. here's a link maintained by someone who has enough time and energy to post hints for every crossword from this paper. please use that if you are stuck.

in tries - s = intrie
This "intrie" now catches "cat" (the pet) to get to "intri(cat)e
Catching the cat moves the "e" to the end.
