What difference does it make? By depriving yourself you might live a little longer but you will be miserable.

If you had/have to ask that question it is better not to eat at anything at all from egg!

Eat any alternative IF you need anything specific from eggs. If not become a vegetarian!

>>> There in a movie 'sleeper' where Woody Allen wakes up a couple of hundred years into the future. They have discovered that cake and ice cream are good for you. The downside is people have stopped having sex, with the exception of Italians. Moral of the story: take what researchers say with a grain of salt. Eat what you want. In the long run, we are all going to be dead anyway. Smile

The point is not about living longer. It's about not having your veins blocked, get a stoke, get paralyzed and be dependent on someone else. That's horrible! The goal is to be hale and healthy, without being dependent on anyone until we kick the bucket. Kicking the bucket could be 20 yrs from now or 50 yrs from now. I don't care abt that.

Yeah, when younger, egg became a super food for health. Moms struggled to feed their children eggs and milk everyday. Even vegetarians turned to eating eggs, justifying that egg is vegetarian. Then came the era of blocked arteries and bypass surgeries. Everyone started to blame the egg yolk for the high cholesterol and the blocked the arteries. Ppl started throwing away the yolks and eating only the whites. Now seems like egg is back to being a super food again. Yolk is rich in vit A, B, D, calcium, iron, etc and shouldn't be thrown away.

Same with Soy. It was a super food a decade ago. Now it's not.

Back in the day when dalda was introduced in india, every housewife was excited. Everything was fried in it. I grew up eating a lot of it. Now it's a transfat poison.

Science is so dynamic. It keeps changing all the time. Never a constant! I think the only thing that remained a constant through the ages is, 'Sarvam khalvidam Brahma' and 'Tatvam Asi'. Razz

general theme: if something new comes up, wait for like 25-30 years to determine its authenticity. When people who consumed it AND their kids have been sufficiently researched.

eggs been around centuries. so has ghee. so they are not BAD.

HOWEVER, for centuries we worked out more than we do now.

HENCE, take eggs 4 times a week, perhaps, and you got a decent moderation.

Ghee, is better than other [newer] evils. A little spoon in daal is fine... and ONCE in a while in parathas, pooris, etc. And there you have it.

Not sure what's the verdict on sugar. It hasn't really been around for centuries, has it? For coke and all, I take the regular one, and I make sure I have coke maybe once in 1-2 months. But then, I eat a lot of other sweet food, so am obviously not doing a good job at it.

trivial tidbit:
Mom was BIG on eggs. We kids dad eggs pretty much everyday until I was maybe 19-20. Then sis began objecting to it, so that put doubt in our minds. Then bhabhi came along, and too many days began becoming "taboo" days. Today is purnima, today is mangalwar, today is this or that... I sometimes wonder, that maybe this is how ancient folks 'regulated' the intake of unhealthy foods. Keep only 3-4 valid days a week to consume stuff and enjoy moderated health. At parents' home, their german shepherd gets all the egg yolks. His is 14-15 years old, which is pretty old for a dog, has health issues but not cholesterol related, so cannot be too bad Smile

listen, heart disease is not a life style disease. it is a genetic disease. i have a close cousin (my father's own-brother's son) whose both parents underwent bypass. my cousin, in his early 30s, turned veg, stopped eating egg yolk, followed DASH diet, swam x kms everyday and got a lipid profile done regularly (which was always normal). today he is 65 years old and has undergone 2 bypasses (first one was when he was 50) and one close-to-death incident. HIS younger brother smokes, drinks, does not exercise and yet is hale and hearty (he is 62).

i love half boiled eggs and eat them often (i have a machine that cooks them to exactly half-boiled stage) and i eat oodles of ghee with my dalia at dinner. but don't take me as an example (to emulate) for i am an aberrant person leading a reckless life (but good at dispensing useful advice). the latest research is that 8 to 12 hours of fasting a day can do wonders to your body (experimented on mice). i have been unknowingly doing that for years. i endorse that study, for, as bw had pointed me to a link once, fasting is the most POWERFUL medicine. it can cure or prevent MANY illnesses. ask me for a link to the youtube video.

@Huz. I do have a family history of heart disease/cholesterol/high BP. Dad had it all and also had a triple bypass. He's on meds, so everything is normal now. Till now all my numbers are WNL. No issues, but still got to be careful. I love eggs and want to have them everyday, yellow and all.

Try green tea with lemon and honey. Tastes yummy and kills the appetite. Love it!

Ya, heard about the benefits of fasting. It's easy for me to fast on working days. Got try that with just lemon water and green tea.
