The movie has a plot that  questions one of the modes used in Hindu faith to worship. In a sense it belittles a faith that is adopted by crores of people. Do you need a stupid movie for that ?

i think it's a satirical film in godmen. Most godmen are cult leaders in the garb of himduism. It's stupid of ppl to fall in their trap. Anyway, i am yet to watch the movie and see what it's all about.

As per reports, the film is not just a satire on Godmen. That is just one part of it. The film is about an extra-terrestrial who lands in India and tries to get home. On the way he questions practices in the country. More specifically he questions
a) Idol Worship among Hindus
b) Conversions being done by XTians, does not question their idol worship or methods of faith
c) In Islam he questions why they (only Talibs do that) do not want to send daughters to school. Basically steered clear of any uncomfortable topics of Indian Muslims. Did not question any social ills of Muslims, their retrograde laws (allowing polygamy, triple talaq divorce) and third rate treatment of women or forcing the veil as dress code. Nor did he question any of the unique modes of Muslim worship. Obviously the guy knows it is the dumb Hindus who would allow Hindu insults or criticism of godmen. The last film OMG which criticized the priests had to change their Christian criticism section when the pastors supported the Pseudo Secular UPA government protested. This time apparently it was mild and only conversions were targeted.
That is not surprising since Kashmir Ulema had been upset about conversions of Muslims in J&K.

Questioning Idol worship of Hindus is no different than drawing a picture of the prophet. But he will not do the latter. Obviously what does this idiot know of Dwaita or Advaita? Clearly he tries to push forward a social anti-Hindu position using his films, questioning a key tenet of Hindu religious pratice. Do not know why Hirani (allegedly the screenplay writer) himself (kicked out of Pakistan during partition by the Political Islamists) allows such things. It is unclear who added these aspects to the film. Whether it was Hirani or whether Aamir added these aspects to the screenplay as a condition for his participation.

They again introduce the concept of Pakistani Male professing love for a Hindu girl. It appears that Pakistan does not have any girls at all, nor does India have Muslim girls at all. This could be partly understood since they are anyway covered from top to bottom in a veil, and in the last two decades this inhuman practice has been forced on Indian Muslim women also, thanks to the Political Islamists.

As an actor he is certainly better than rest of the leading Muslim stars, but his one-side social criticisms in the film, clearly have an Islamist and anti-Hindu viewpoint.

Amir Khan is the best Khan and better than any other actor Hindus or Muslim, so I will watch the movie. Hindu religion cannot be belittled by a movie.

He is a good actor (though not the best as your portray), but this is not  about Aamir alone.

The movie was directed by Hirani, a Sindhi guy kicked out of Pakistan, thanks to the ethnic cleansing on Hindus there. Aamir apparently co-directed it, but it does not figure in the credits.
The screenplay is purported to have been written by Hirani.
However, it is typical  that they have assistants who do the job and credit is given to Hirani.
In addition folks put in controversial statements to get publicity.

Hirani should have made sure that even if criticism of religion has been added to make the film
controversial, the whole thing is balanced

The target of those who are attacking Hinduism's core beliefs. is NOT you, but young Hindu kids and adolescents who watch
the movie. It would have been a balanced movie, if they had also equally questioned formless worship in Islam/
or other aspects of Christian worship OR other beliefs/form of worship of other religions.

Merlot, you claim subtly to be a genius, but you seem to be lacking basic common sense. Imagine criticizing and showing the facts about muslims. Won't all hell break loose? Won't we be hurting the sentiments of them poor souls and inciting them into violence? Won't all the apologists like yourself get all worked up and come into their defense and try to do the usual red herring logic thing bringing in the caste ills of hindus, modi and the chaddies? You ought not to and dare not to do that.

Yeah, they did show a brief bomb blast of a train, and the hero getting all agitated about it and posing some general questions as to who are we to protect the creator of the whole universe, etc but won't get more into islamic terrorism and rightfully so. Hindus are not wimpy aunties who are scared about the jihadi moles. right? They are real men who got to worry about the chaddi moles among them, not jihadi moles.

And the hindu girl marrying a pakistani muslim guy....that's ok too. Hindus got to be broadminded and come out of their caste and religious biases and encourage such unions. Again, you dare not show a muslim girl marrying a hindu guy. How dare you if you do so!

wrt Christians....no they are a minority in india. Not a whole lot could be converted, you see. The only thing one should be worried is if they are getting converted back to hinduism.

so yeah, the movie was made in india catering to a majority of indians, and it was made as it should be, taking into consideration the tolerance and sentiment levels of different religious groups.

Edit: the only peeve i have is that they didn't say anything about the basic essence of hinduism, the philosophy and all and how ppl are wavering away from it and getting too much into the godmen, rituals, silly sentiments etc.

I did and did you know about the intense disapproval Mani Ratnam got wrt showing a muslim girl marrying a hindu boy from the muslims and did you know about the bomb blast that happened at his home? He was very lucky he survived. A friend of mine knew his family. I believe they were very distraught about it and who wouldn't be? You take a movie showing a muslim girl marrying a hindu boy and there are ppl out there who deem you are fit to die coz of that. And this was way back in the 90s. Imagine anyone having the guts to do what Mani Ratnam did now in the current day.

ashdoc, it's very easy for ppl to criticize the movie makeres while sitting securely in the comfort of their homes and offices. You can't expect anyone to show the ills of islam/muslims and criticize them. If you were to do it, would you have the guts to do so? Won't you care about your dear life? Be honest!

As for Christians, they did ridicule the part about the stupidity of the belief about Jesus dying for you sins 2000 yrs ago and they did touch a little part about the missionaries converting ppl. They didn't want to go beyond that as Christians are in a minority and they didn't want to hurt their feelings.

wrt hindus, the movie caters to a majority of hindus and is targeted at them. So it's but natural that they focused more on Hinduism. If it helps ppl to get off the clutches of the godmen, kudos to movie makers! There's a lot of such madness in India. You don't see that kind of stupidity much in other religions. Also, ppl got too much into the idol worship part and the rituals. The movie should've hinted upon the fact that idols are just symbolic representation of the Higher Power and that one got to look beyond that, and not be stuck at the ritualistic part of the idols. Or did it do it subtly? some Upanashidic and Geeta verses should've been thrown in.

The movies to have watched this year are 1. Interstellar (which I enjoyed) and 2. The Imitation game (cuz Benedict Cumbaerbacth I expect will do a good job) and 3. The Stephen Hawking movie (who knows, it might be edifying). There's also a Wes Anderson movie, I should catch it, it's that genre that I like, full of whimsy and so human.

Grand Budapest Hotel. I didn't like it much. One film I enjoyed was Lunchbox. I want to watch Godard's Good Bye to Language. Will go tomorrow or day after. Another one I am looking forward to is Winter sleep by Nur Bilge Ceylan. I loved his Once upon a time in Anatolia.

Sorry Kinny. Despite striking the right notes in this lengthy TBT-style essay, it doesn't change the fact that you *did* like this anti-Hindu, love-jihadist movie. Coming so soon after your love for Pakistan was unmasked, NRI patriots won't be embracing you any time soon.

The guy is an alien who lands on earth. He doesn't have a name. He's all confused by the ways of the earth and acts weird, so ppl wonder if he's drunk (peekay). that's how he takes his name as PK/peekay.

Same here. OK movie but the producer should have picked a Hindu hero instead of Aamir Khan. Imagine the mayhem that would be unleashed by a Hindu hero acting in an Islam bashing(mostly) movie in Pakistan.

So I skipped buying Amir Khan's movie ticket. Saved my dollars and instead downloaded PK.

Taslima Nasreen is happy, PK was made in India.

Same here. OK movie but the producer should have picked a Hindu hero instead of Aamir Khan. Imagine the mayhem that would be unleashed by a Hindu hero acting in an Islam bashing(mostly) movie in Pakistan.

Why are Muslims and Pakistan forever the gold standard for benchmarking by NRI Patriots??

"Oh *they* would have reacted violently if *their* religion had been ridiculed, so what is wrong if react violently too?" is the petulant complaint of chaddi retards. Forever aspiring to be *like* Muslims. Even conquered women like Upps Aunty.

Good.

Milk on a Shivling is just a few Rs. I wonder why Aamir/Hirani does not get the same thoughts, when lakhs are spent on going to Saudi Arabia to go around a piece of stone OR when crores are spent building Huge mosques. Morons!

Who cares what idiocy happens in Saudi Arabia? Why are you chaddis so obsessed with what Muslims do? All your thoughts and actions seem to be weak attempts to imitate Muslim zealotry. Eat more goat. Your attempts will be much stronger then.
