Jean Béliveau passed away yesterday. Truly a great Canadian. May he RIP.

Yeah. He was a gentleman. Godie Howe, who also was famous, wasn't a gentleman on ice. He was sneaky - used to trip and elbow opponents when the referee wasn't watching.

Moreover, there are not many people around who, for personal reasons (family commitment etc.), would skip the opportunity to become a Senator or the Governor General if offered those positions by the Govt. (Prime Ministers). Jean Béliveau declined those offers each time indicating that he was already committed to taking care of his family (help his daughter raise her kids) and thus would not be able to do full justice to the new assignment as a member of Senate or the Queen's representative in Canada. Now that is class, Béliveau style.
