Sekhar Kottu It is of no consequence what Hindi does with its syllable. Rama and Ram are two different names and each one of them should be pronounced as it should be. Will they pronounce Ganga as Gang ? Hindi cannot take liberties with our languages and names. We religiously follow their dictates while pronouncing their words however strange they may be. For ex we should read Anari as Anadi and Gurgaon as Gudgaon. Then what is their problem in pronouncing Kerala and Karnataka as they are?
