Hindi language has been gaining roots across the State not only as an integrating factor but as a catalyst for career progression.

The present-day youth have understood the importance and relevance of Hindi language as a tool for their prospective career and it is time that political leaders changed their perception towards Hindi, said Pon. Radhakrishnan, Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping.

Delivering the 18th annual Visharad convocation address at Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha here on Saturday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said a large number of students were now learning Hindi, realising its importance as it guaranteed progressive career outside Tamil Nadu.

Pointing out that about 3 lakh students were learning Hindi through the Sabha, the Minister appealed to its authorities to enrol a large number of students with a target of 20 lakh citizens across the State during its centenary celebrations which falls in a couple of years.

He said with the students of Tamil Nadu spontaneously opting to learn Hindi, political leaders should evolve a new dimension in their outlook, above linguistic interests.

He said that Hindi language could be utilised to popularise the treasures in Tamil literature such as “Seevaka Chinthamani” and “Silapathikaram”.

“Learn Hindi and translate these popular works and gain popularity in the national scenario,” he told 2,000-odd students who received their certificates on the occasion.

Mr. Radhakrishnan released a compact disc comprising the Hindi lessons brought out by the sabha.

He said that the simple sessions would go a long way in attracting the learners and hoped that the sabha would bring out more CDs in the interest of the learners.

Rashmun,
Why are you reposting stupid statements? Do you see the flaws in this fellow's statement?

Hindi is not worth bothering about. If someone is translating great texts like the Silambu, English is the language of choice. Much broader and bigger audience.

no harm in translating these works into both hindi and english. many hindi speakers are not that comfortable with english. Let them also benefit by reading the tamil works in hindi translation.

It is not necessary for more than 7 crore Tamils to learn Hindi to translate Tamil literature to Hindi. Just a few Tamils or a few Hindians knowledgreable in both languages can do it.

Thirukural is translated into Japan. How many Tamils or Japanese know both languages?

See the flaw in the statement you posted.

I read somewhere that the notion of infinity presents itself when one is confronted with the ocean of tamil literature. would you agree? And if so, how can only a few people manage the translation task?

<< infinity presents itself when one is confronted with the ocean of tamil literature >>

It is called poetic license.

By t he way, a Japanese learned Tamil to translate Kural. Why don't you learn Tamil and translate something to Hindi?
