I wonder if he apologizing to himself and to us. I still detest his policies and the ruination he caused, but I like that there is a human being with heart peeking through.

Maybe I am an idiot, but I want to believe that he feels bad about surrounding himself with unscrupulous neocons, starting unnecessary wars, and causing untold numbers of needless deaths. Maybe he is apologizing to himself first for having letting himself be influenced by grade A a-holes and in the process apologizing to us, the American public. Some of the paintings are genuinely good and evoke the sense that he has understood the pain that these wounded veterans have suffered. There's more on his library website than available in the NYT article. I am thinking about getting the book.

This doesn't mean he is forgiven, but that there are redeemable qualities to the man which were previously unknown.

He refused to pardon Scooter Libby. He commuted his sentence, but left the felony on his record. At some point in his second term the dumbest president we had in a century figured out that he was being used by the neocons.

Thankfully for him, history will judge him as much better than the next Republican president.
