Obummer's Justice Department let Russian lawyer into US before she met with Trump team

The Russian lawyer who penetrated Donald Trump’s inner circle was initially cleared into the United States by the Justice Department under “extraordinary circumstances” before she embarked on a lobbying campaign last year that ensnared the president’s eldest son, members of Congress, journalists and State Department officials, according to court and Justice Department documents and interviews.
This revelation means it was the Obama Justice Department that enabled the newest and most intriguing figure in the Russia-Trump investigation to enter the country without a visa.

The Justice Department and its US Attorney's office in Manhattan, Preet Bharara, were trying to prosecute the money laundering case against a Putin associate. That is why they let the lawyer in. A judge asked for that to be extended, as the article clearly states.
Here is another interesting tidbit...
And Veselnitskaya also attended a dinner with the chairman of the House subcommittee overseeing Russia policy, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) and roughly 20 other guests at a dinner club frequented by Republicans.
In an interview with The Hill on Wednesday, Rohrabacher said, “There was a dinner at the Capitol Hill Club here with about 20 people. I think I was the only congressman there.
Who is this Rohrabacher, you wonder? Ah, let's ask House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy...
“I’ll guarantee you that’s what it is. . . . The Russians hacked the DNC and got the opp [opposition] research that they had on Trump,” McCarthy said with a laugh.
Ryan asked who the Russians “delivered” the opposition research to.
“There’s . . . there’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy said, drawing some laughter. “Swear to God,” McCarthy added.
“This is an off the record,” Ryan said.

It's a little bit of both.
Reminds me of that time last year when McConnell blamed Obama for not warning him and his colleagues about the problems with a bill they had just passed. As it turned out, Obama had warned them both in private and in public, and had actually vetoed the bill. McConnell went ahead and pushed it anyway, and then turned around and blamed Obama for not warning him enough!
