Spreading Trump 'eshtyle' democracy

Post by confuzzled dude on Sat Jul 08, 2017 8:11 am

HAMBURG -- President Trump's daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump has an expansive portfolio in her father's administration. But on Saturday, she literally took his seat at the table at the G-20 Summit here.

The first daughter was spotted slipping into Trump's seat at a G-20 Summit working session on "Partnership with Africa, Migration and Health" putting her shoulder-to-shoulder with Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who sat one seat down.

America, now, for sure, has become the torch bearer of democracy.

Every day is a new low. He is converting the Republic into a monarchy and the Trumptards are lapping it up.

Imagine the scene if Michelle Obama or Malia Obama had sat in President Obama's place at one of these meetings and the furor it would have caused.

World leaders have realized about importance of America's role in world matters, decades ago but when will the current president?

I think our assumptions about government have always been that we elect leaders who then seek people with expertise acquired through education and work to execute their policies. We have come to take governance by policy wonks and technocrats for granted. So it is a violent assault on that sensibility when said leaders blithely assign that responsibility to family members with no prior demonstrated expertise, even if they are working for free. Beyond the glee that Leper supporters will obviously feel at our seething, are they really comfortable with this? It is precedent setting. As some democratic congressman asked Paul Ryan, can my son take my place at next week's committee hearing? If it's not ok for the congressman, why is it ok for Leper?

Reagan extols one of the commonalities of the two nations, "the practice of democratic freedoms denied to so many people." She nearly took that away during the emergency.  I don't remember those years, being too young, but many elders in my family took a sharp turn in their political alignment after the emergency and were forever suspicious of her. In the final analysis, she did more harm than good. She was no Nehru.

Not much has changed in India..
Ravi Kiran, who reportedly works in the social media wing of the YSRC, operates the Facebook page Political Punch. He has been posting satirical comments against Naidu, Lokesh among other TDP leaders. A visit to the Facebook page indicates that a majority of the posts were made poking fun at Lokesh by morphing his photographs and referring him as ‘Pappu’.

However, the said post which attracted the ire of law enforcement agencies was the one where Lokesh asks his father to send him to the AP Legislative Council which is referred as ‘Peddala Sabha’ in local parlance. Replacing the AP Legislative Council board, Ravi Kiran placed a photograph of a couple kissing with the caption ‘Adults Only’.

It may be recalled that Lokesh was elected to the state legislative council and inducted into the Cabinet last month.
