Absolute lack of humanity and work ethic

Post by Shyam Sundar on Sat Aug 12, 2017 7:49 am

In what is developing into a medical disaster in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur, at least 60 children have died over the last five days at the state-run Baba Raghav Das Medical College and Hospital after supply of oxygen cylinders to the hospital was disrupted, according to reports.
Gorakhpur district magistrate Rajeev Rautela confirmed that there was a shortage of liquid oxygen at the medical college and that due to non-payment of Rs 70 lakh, the vendor supplying oxygen had stopped the supply. However, he said that the college principal had informed him that alternative arrangements were available for emergency use.
Rautela also said that a payment of Rs 35 lakh has been made to the vendor, and that he had been requested not to disrupt the oxygen supply.
A letter addressed to the hospital chief and written by the oxygen supply vendor, Pushpa Sales Pvt Ltd, suggests that an outstanding payment of Rs 63,65,702 was the reason behind the disruption of the oxygen supply.

Really tragic. Govt. needs to take a stern action and punish the guilty.

What's the point of bragging about GDP growth, rank and FDI inflows when a country cannot take care of its future i.e. its children. You cannot blame socialism for this, for each US there are three other countries that have government managed health care and still provide good health care to their citizens. Unfortunately, this boils down to one's culture and values.

Look at the callous attitude of CM, as if those 60 deaths are justified if this tragedy was not due to oxygen supply or lack thereof.

Documents accessed by India Today show the hospital outsourced cylinders from a plant as far as 350 km away - from Imperial Gases Limited in Allahabad.

What is worse, the investigation found that the company could instead have delivered industrial oxygen to the Gorakhpur hospital.
"It (Imperial Gases) has a depot in Faizabad, from where it was delivering supplies to many hospitals", he said.

At Faizabad, the plant's manager confirmed that the unit only produced factory oxygen and not medical.

"See, we cannot produce medical oxygen here. We are not licensed to produce medical oxygen. It involves a lot of formalities", said S.K. Verma, Manager of Imperial Gases' factory in Faizabad. "We keep no stock of it either. We only store industrial (oxygen) for supplies," he added.

And this is the country aspiring to be a world leader
