"Is It A Crime To Remember Heroes," Asks PM On Statue Of Unity: 10 Points

Post by Seva Lamberdar on Wed Oct 31, 2018 2:37 pm

NEW DELHI:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi today unveiled the Statue of Unity, which at 182 metres is the tallest in the world, as a tribute to freedom icon Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 143rd birth anniversary. Air jets flow over the statue, helicopters showered flowers on it with fireworks in the green, orange and white colours as as PM Modi dedicated it to the nation. The Sardar Patel statue, twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty, has been built at a cost of Rs. 2,989 crore and is located in Gujarat, 3.2 km downstream of the Narmada dam."Today is a day that will be remembered in the history of India," said PM Modi, paying glowing tribute to Sardar Patel. He said the Statue of Unity is a "a symbol of our engineering and technical prowess." Anticipating protests by locals who demand compensation for the land used for the enormous figure, thousands of police personnel were deployed ahead of the inauguration.

Here is your 10-point cheatsheet on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Statue of Unity:

"It is one of the greatest moments in my life today. Because of your blessings, I have been given the honour to be the one who dedicates this amazing statue to the nation," PM Modi said.

The statue depicts Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Home Minister, wearing a traditional dhoti and shawl, towering over river Narmada.
Iron was collected from all over the country for the statue of Sardar Patel, also known as the Iron Man of India. The statue can withstand severe wind velocity and severe earthquakes.

Online booking to visit the Statue of Unity has opened with a Rs. 350 admission fee for the 153-metre-high observation deck that opens to visitors on November 3.

The statue has been designed by Padma Bhushan-winning sculptor Ram V Sutar and has been built by Larsen and Toubro and the state-run Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd. It took about 250 engineers and 3,400 labourers to construct the statue in 33 months.

The Statue of Unity stands 177 feet higher than the current world's tallest, China's Spring Temple Buddha in the central Henan province.
Local tribal leaders had announced a boycott of the inaugural function citing destruction of natural resources due to the memorial. The Gujarat government said the 185 families moved to make way for the statue had been compensated and given 1,200 acres of new land.

Activists said about a dozen of their leaders had been detained before the grand event, news agency AFP reported. Police denied they had made any detentions.

"The statue will remind those who question India's existence, that this nation was, is and will remain eternal," PM Modi said. "This (statue) is a source of unity...with this sentiment we should march...and march with a dream to make the country 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' (One India, Superior India)," he said.

The core of the statue is made up of reinforced concrete, but its surface that gives it a distinct design, has been created using 553 bronze panels - each panel has 10 to 15 micro panels. The panels were cast at a foundry in China and imported, which led to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi repeatedly targeting the government, claiming that the statue which will have a 'Made in China' tag.

Mr Gandhi again attacked PM Modi's ambitious project. He described it as ironic that the statue of Sardar Patel is being inaugurated, but "every institution he helped build is being smashed."

The statue has a viewing gallery which can accommodate 200 visitors at a time. This gallery offers a view of the Sardar Sarovar Dam, its reservoir, and the Satpura and Vindhya mountain ranges.

Sardar Patel was more than a hero to India. Without him there probably would be no India now. To realize the significance of his contribution fully in uniting more than 3000 princely states quickly as one country (Indian Republic) in 1947, look at the tremendous difficulty and expenditure (including human cost) for Indians so far since 1948 for the only state (Kashmir) which he was ruled out by then Indian Govt. to have as only India's responsibility.

Read again; Nobody denied that Patel was a hero rather questioning motives of परम मूर्ख Modi. Rest of your post is an attempt to rewrite history. Indian independence will always be remembered for division i.e. partition and, rightfully so, 15 million were displaced and over a million lost their lives.

Patel is a hero who united India when India's Unity was crumbling soon after independence. Patel's statue is well deserved and jewel in India's crown.

The statue is going to bring revenue through tourism and many jobs in that area. The economy too benefits.

How many people would have been displaced and died after the independence of India from Britain if there had not been the pre-independence campaign "Muslims can't live with Hindus and therefore need a separate country" leading to the creation of new Pakistan for Muslims by partitioning India at the time of Independence, which led millions of people to move between the left-over India and newly created Pakistan and to also get entangled and die in the new religious fights involving different groups due to the partition of India and creation of Pakistan?

Hardly anyone, IMO.
