Post by Guest Tue Aug 07, 2012 11:31 am

ok, the personal events of my life have cluttered the GOW thread. so i am starting a thread dedicated to my current situation. i will post updates here.

i have also been thinking, today, of posting a condensed business history of my family (maybe in parts) leading up to the gold scam incident i passingly mentioned in that GOW thread. i will do it when i am a bit free. but let me first learn if anyone is interested in the story of my family. if at least one member is interested, i will write and post. if no one is, i will pass.

I am interested...also don't forget to work in the moll...no epic is complete without one...if there's no one thus far, Natalia appears to be prime candidate...she appears fed up with middle age ennui and is ready to live dangerously. Might chew your ear off with back stories from late eighties but what's there to do while on lam anyway...

Please post. Your friends and enemies are all interested. At the opportune time, the latter may slap more "sections" on you than any police ever did. It will be enjoyable to read that indictment, so please do tell the story.

LOL artood2 and above posts.

nats.: i don't want to do mandoli, settlement, with him. this is not settlement -- this is arm twisting. i got the local MLA, my old friend, on my side. the officer-in-charge (OC) is already half-neutered. he would have put my boys in JC (to put pressure on me) had it not been for his fear of the MLA. he would have also encouraged my adversary to take forceful posession of the PG room while turning a blind eye but he is fearful. yesterday the OC fell at the MLA's feet requesting him to organize a settlement. the MLA called me. i said the OC has taken big money and is fooling both of us with his cock and bull stories that there is enormous pressure from the commissioner of police (CP). he understood and told the OC to back-off and not contemplate illegal means (a police mediated settlement, arm twisting in this case, though not illegal, is not a "process of law"). if i directly call my adversary for a settlement, i'd be eating our national bird -- crow.

It will take me 25 days to get bail, ha ha -- long queue. I will wait till day after when my anticipatory bail will be filed in court. Then I'll talk to my MLA friend and the OC and return home.

no. i will meet my MLA friend today and have him get an assurance from the OC that he won't arrest me. if he gives the assurance (he already has to the MLA but i want it in front of me) then i will return home. else i will stay in this hotel for a month. i had forgotten that it had taken me a month in mumbai to get anticipatory bail for my father in 2000 -- i was cooped up all the time in residency hotel in fort in mumbai; walking to the advocate's chamber and court everyday and reading amitav ghosh.

Saar, are you jet-lagged, or did you lose all sense of time in your latest hoojie fantasy? The lota ritual is usually carried out before the sun comes up.

i think you're wrong; i understand that women perform the ritual after sun-down because they don't want to bare their arses in the morning when the fields are crowded with low-caste men.

ok, met the MLA and spoke with the OC. the OC advised me to wait for my anticipatory bail petition to be filed. it will be filed tomorrow (high court is closed today -- probably on account of janmashtami). as soon as it is filed, he said, i could return home and he would not arrest me. my solicitor had advised me the same thing last night when i had indicated to him that i wished to return based on my MLA friend's reassurance.

i suppose the matter becomes sub judice upon filing the anticipatory bail application. although the OC can still arrest me, he now has an excuse, however flimsy, to explain to his superiors as to why he is not arresting me. my crime, in any case, is not grievous to warrant aggressive arrest.

so one more day of hotel food and tuition to my older in evening. last night we had poulet facon de chef (dunno how to pronounce it): grilled chicken breasts stuffed with spinach and cheese, served with mushroom sauce and butter rice. the older packed a few portions to take home for the younger. i think i'll have either lobster thermidor or butter chicken today (for lunch).

Sounds delicious - haven't seen / tried chanchra and kochu curry though.

But isn't it rather late in the hilsa season for a festival??

it is. it is also a crime to catch (pregnant) hilsa in rainy season. hilsa fishing is banned in bangladesh in these months (or the ban starts about now) -- don't know about india. hilsa, it is predicted, will disappear in these parts in a few years.

last night, when i was in a business meeting in a hotel with my older, my older got a call from his best friend (they were in the same school and class for 12 years). this friend is known to me. his father died when he was in class 8. he stepped into his father's shoes (he is an only son) and started managing his further's prosperous business. he self-drives an audi. Razz he is now studying commerce (bcom) while running his business. my older said he wanted to talk to me. i got on line.

him-- uncle we are having an outing on the 11th and... (i interrupted him)
me -- listen beta, you both are adults; you don't need my permission to invite xxx (my older).
him --- uncle i know that! i am calling to invite you!
me -- listen, i'm on the run so keep my presence optional.
he shot back -- so am i! i have 2 criminal cases on me. let's get together and party na!
me -- i will see...keep me optional.

i had partied with him and my kids a few months ago to celebrate their school graduation. he drinks. my kids don't. i don't mind. but i like the boy.

late at night he called my older again and asked if i needed his help in my criminal case. i told my kid to tell him that things were in control but i'd contact him if they spun out of control.

fantastic! my story is ready. it is 30 pages long and raw. i will edit it today. it will be the perfect finishing lesson for my older. his business tuition is complete. and though i should not be saying this for he is my son, i am very impressed *touch wood* by the way he has absorbed the lessons and quizzed me. he is mentally sharp, agile and hungry. i am not sure if i will post the story here for it will need more drastic editing and ambiguity (to hide real events and names of prominent people and limited companies) -- let's see. an option is to post it in a blog and open it to viewership by invite and then invite suchers interested in reading it. let me see.

my son is halfway into chankya's chant. i have told him that i will never force him to read a novel or book after the day he leaves my house for college in less than a fortnight. it appears that the last book that i am going to be forcing him to read will be a 30 page long biography of a business family, covering one generation, and almost the size of a novella, and written by me! this is called poetic justice. yes, there is a god!

my wife is 10 pages into it and cannot put it down. my younger is so impatient that he has already started reading it. the older is in no hurry. Sad

i have decided to share my story, the rise and fall of family x, the business story of my father's generation. it is available to all those who request for it. it is stored as a pdf file in the monsoon clouds and i am sending its link to all who have evinced interest in reading it in this thread. anyone alse who is interested may send me a note or indicate here and i will send a link over notes.

the reason why i am doing this in this fashion is because,

(i) i will delete the link after all have read it (i.e. after some time);
(ii) the information contained in it is private and concerns people living or dead and the story cannot be in public domain.

i entreat all who read it not to copy and store the pdf or sections of it. however, everyone is free to discuss it here (mention details from the story in a slightly ambiguous way if you have to).

to those who have evinced interest:

props: moll? check
tracy: shock? check
impy: SI angle? why there is a mylapore iyer angle!
kinns: it is a straightforward narration without any literary devices or shock or supense added. the story has enough of it to create a momentum of its own (or so i think)
jeri miyan: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...... (you are not interested...ok, i get the hint!)
charvaka: i think this will be good non-fiction for you to understand the business environment of india in the 60s to 80s and how or why families (like family x) collapse. there are many families like family x that have collapsed but their story is not documented.

one more comment. reading the timeline keeping in mind 'a suitable boy', and how the bongs would often mention smart but uneducated marwaris and the effects of them on the overall dynamics of calcutta.

Also have many madu friends or relatives having 'main' family in calcutta. Some of my friends did their entire wedding shopping from there. So, can sorta relate that with your story too.

yes. what you read is what exactly happened. they were hanged after i joined business, prolly in 1990/91. so that means the trial took 10 years!
