Re: Who is your favorite charity...
I don't have a favorite charity, so I spread my contributions. I donate regularly to: local NPR station, Wikimedia Foundation, local community arts studio, my undergrad and graduate schools, Medecins sans Frontieres, and a small local organization back home that educates underprivileged children. I also donate sporadically to cause-based organizations like Equality California and disaster relief efforts.
I volunteer sporadically for: local NPR station, local community arts studio, AID and Asha. I do this a lot less than I would ideally like to.

Sankara Eye Foundation. They directly trace your donations to operations done on folks, and send you their names. You know your funds directly made the difference and gave sight for a few folks!
