probability questions
this arises from this post: https://such.forumotion.com/t12200-jumma-chumma#94197
now i seek my older's help in solving probability problems. i play yatzy online -- which is a dice game. what is the probability of the following (no googling please):
1) (one dice) probability of getting a 1 on first roll
2) (2 dices) probability of getting a pair?
3) (2 dices) probability of getting 2 sixes.

Re: probability questions
these are very easy problems. why don't you attempt them and post your answers?

Re: probability questions
Since I haven't done probability type questions for a long time, let me just guess the answers, 1/6, 1/6, 1/36?
Re: probability questions
"one die," not "one dice"; "two dice," not "two dices." "dice" is the plural of "die."Huzefa Kapasi wrote:this arises from this post: https://such.forumotion.com/t12200-jumma-chumma#94197

yes these are easy questions. i was meaning to post a few more today after these easy ones:MaxEntropy_Man wrote:these are very easy problems. why don't you attempt them and post your answers?
1) what is the probability of getting 2 of a kind in 2 consecutive rolls of dice?
2) what is the probability of getting 3 of a kind in 3 consecutive rolls of dice?
3) what is the probability of getting a 6 in three consecutive rolls of a dice?
here i failed the 3rd one.
answers are:
1) 1/6
2) 1/6 X 1/6
3) 5/6 X 5/6 X 1/6

Don't feel bad.
The use of plural "dice" for singular "die" is already messed up and was probably created to avoid a confusion with "dies" (as plural for die), probably because "dies" already was used in the sense of dying.
Using "dice" in the gambling game both as singular and plural, or "dice" as singular and "dices" as plural, would be more logical than using "die" as singular and "dice" as plural.
