VARANASI: The city had been included in the ambitious Clean India Campaign of the Union ministry of tourism for renovation of Kashi Vishwanath Temple and beautification of ghats.

Regional tourism officer Ravindra Mishra said that under the campaign, all the 84 ghats and parasols of pandas on the bank and boats ferrying into Ganga would be made unicolour. Cleaning and beautification of ghats would also be carried out. VMC is made the nodal angency for the project. In collaboration with Japan International co-operation Agency (JICA), VMC would make 130 public toilets in the city. Also there would be one big toilet after every three ghats.

JICA would spend a total of Rs 469.90 crores on the project, which would include improving the sewage system, dhobi ghats and Ganga ghats. Rs 31 crores would be spent on constructing public toilets and beautification of ghats.
