Election 2013 Analysis Empty Election 2013 Analysis

First, this elections has been a local elections without undue importance to national issues of financial crises, foreign or defense issues.

1. BJP won MP due to good governance by a local BJP leader - who had full independence from the Central party.
2. BJP won Rajasthan mainly due to bad governance by Gehlot, and a "recognizable" BJP leader capitalizing on it.
3. Chattisgarh - even. But, Congress could have built up an anti-incumbancy mood and should have built up on it. It failed. Again, local leader more effective on the BJP side.
4. Delhi - AAP the winner. A great start. Biggest splash in Indian Politics after NCP.

The central BJP cannot claim much credit for its wins except that it let the local leaders run their own campaign and not interfere much into their activities. Modi did not help, but did not do any damage. His presence and campaign initiated and accelerated the anti-congressism through his Charismatic presence, saying openly what politicians have been hesitant to say - Dynasty, Madam, Shezada. These local leaders can be expected to help Modi in 2014.

Congress lost bcz of its own sycophancy and the Dynasty not letting any regional leader grow in stature. A true Congress traddition borne out of insecurity of the Dyansty. Unfortunately, Congress does not know anything else and their tallest leaders are Tiwary and Digvijay, which does not augur well for 2014.

AAP made a great start in Delhi partly due to Anna's 2 year publicity and protest in Delhi. Whether this can be repeated in other cities like Kolkutta, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad is unsure at this point. Right now it has been a Kejriwal show and the party can immensely benefit in the south if only it can identify good local leaders. Also, it has to be careful about party jumpers from other parties - notably Congress.

All in all it is an excellent platform for BJP to build its prospects for 2014 and it will be in a better position to bargain for seats with its allies.

I hope the Congress stops beating around the bush and names their dynastic prince as the Prime Ministerial candidate and is handed a resounding defeat in national elections.
