I think Modi will neither be a 'protector' nor the 'destroyer' of Muslims. Both sides are making irrational claims in the run up to the polls. IMO, he'll not do anything overtly anti-muslim at least in his first term at the helm. This term, if he comes to power, will be to consolidate and expand his support system and constituency. The fringe elements of Sangh (not necessarily the mainstream RSS and VHP but the Bajrangi, Shiv Sena, Ram Sene kinds) may indulge in some rhetoric, mischief or extremism and Modi may have tough time keeping them in limits while still not antagonizing them. How he handles them depends on many factors viz. internal enemies within Sangh/BJP, enemies within allies and his own strength in parliament. A power seeker like him will first prioritize consolidating his base before opening war on other fronts and terrains.
