Do we want subforums?
Re: Do we want subforums?
Either. Maybe keep a cricket one separate. They WILL go to that forum no matter what... other topics are up for grabs by all.

I am not too big on seeing a private conversation, say in Tamil or Telugu in the middle of a thread on another subject.Tracy Whitney wrote:Either. Maybe keep a cricket one separate. They WILL go to that forum no matter what... other topics are up for grabs by all.

May be a NSFW sub-forum would be useful too.

Re: Do we want subforums?
I like the idea of subforums. those who like cricket can discuss it under cricket and all of us will have less clutter to browse through. Major ones will do like they had on sulekha. we dont need to make hindi NI SI sub forums.

Re: Do we want subforums?
There are way too many subforums. It seems every topic has a sub forum. Unlike CH, each post does not show up differently, so all topics in one forum is not a problem as long as discussion does not spill to other topics.

Re: Do we want subforums?
Currently, it is a bit cumbersome to navigate the various subforums and locate new posts and so I am not sure if I want so much categorization. Since we get to see only the thread titles and not the individual posts, having one forum may not cause too much of a clutter. On the other hand, there are times when I am unable to listen to a piece of music posted or watch a video right when I read the thread and would like to revisit it later. With subforums, it is easier to locate such posts.
Can we have a "Sticky" thread for music like "What are you listening to now?"

Good idea! If we end up removing the categorization, I can do this on the main forum.blabberwock wrote:Currently, it is a bit cumbersome to navigate the various subforums and locate new posts and so I am not sure if I want so much categorization. I think it still makes sense to keep the language-specific threads in sub-forums. Perhaps we keep the rest all together.

Re: Do we want subforums?
i feel if the voting is a close finish, then the benefit of doubt should be given to those wanting sub-forums. just my 2 cents.

what are you reading right now & what are you eating right now. regardless of the stickies, members can still start a "vot's for lunch" or "in times of seige by gita hariharan" threads.

Re: Do we want subforums?
If you peek into this forum once every few days, it is the sub forums which bring order to the long list of posts. There is no question that sub forums are very useful.
If there are folks, who are loged all day and would like a chronological list, I suggest that we somehow think of ways to customize the view to be either chronological in single forums OR in the form of sub forums. But this is only for viewing, while posting the person posting, needs to select the sub forum to which he/she is posting.
Off course, if they do not like this, they can always post in CH main , where anything goes.

Re: Do we want subforums?
If you had your own site, you could use vbAdvanced, which would allow you to have a 'landing page' that would pick up the posts in chronological order....regardless of the sub-forum. That would be a clean way to segregate the posts. You could also have the top news items show up in the landing page.

I do not see any value in sub forums....

LOL @ 50-50%
according to FAQ, " Sticky topics appear below any announcements in viewforum and only on the first page. They are often quite important so you should read them where possible. As with announcements the board administrator determines what permissions are required to post sticky topics in each forum."
are these imp - wat are we eating, drinking, reading, listening

This poll is inconclusive. I will leave the subforums alone as they are, as well as the stickies. Let us give this more time and see what features people are using more.seven wrote:LOL @ 50-50%

Absolutely. Instead of opening thread after thread on these topics, why not have it at one place? I am mostly interested in the music bit because this lets me to go one place and check out all the music recos when I have the time to do that.

Actually, since that latest topics on the right hand side, it's ok to use subforums, as it gets up there if anything was posted.

Re: Do we want subforums?
yeah its totally cool feature. i dont have to go back to main coffeehouse and scroll down to see the main CH topics. Sticky or not, the subforums dont matter anymore

Re: Do we want subforums?
Its time we closed this poll and removed it from the sticky list. The stickies are crowding the page. Mr. Admin?
