US economy is finally shows signs of stability and steady growth.
Merkel's austerity kills any possibility of European recovery. Germany it self is edging back to no growth.
US employment is improving. Wages are still flat but some optimism that they may start going up.
US housing stalls. Existing home sales fall. New home starts are at historically low.
US planning to pull out afghanistan.
US pulled into another anti muslim conflict in syria and iraq.
US health insurance (ACA) is taking root and it can get better with time.
Ebola steps in and ruins any health care gains among voters.
Republicans are leaderless and are rated at below 10% in polls.
Republicans are sweeping both Senate and House elections.
Obama fights for women's rights and contraception coverage.
Republicans pull almost even among women voters. White males he and democrats are beaten by 20 or 30 points.
He is standing upto rightwing nuts.
But democrats, blacks, and hispanics are too lazy or too busy to care to vote.

some of it has to do with inability to message well. here are some solid things he can discuss:
-- shored up the financial system after the disaster he inherited from the idiot and made sure the US doesn't go into depression. improved stability of american banks.
-- healthcare. IMO this is a great signature achievement. healthcare costs are going down finally.
-- OBL
-- a solid attempt to pull out of the two major engagements abroad though there are still lingering problems made more difficult by a combination of ruthless despots and barbaric islamic terrorists.

some analysts are saying Obama is reactive and slow to react on several issues. They say he let ISIS, Ebola and Ukraine get out of hand by staying behind the curve.
He was very successful in getting the message across at election time but seems slow in the white house. Is he missing David Axelrod?

yes that's true and bad, but that's better than the other kind of bad -- thoughtless, idiotic, and impulsive.

I didn't vote for him or Romney, but I would credit Obama for stabilizing the financial system. People do all sorts of Monday morning quarterbacking on this, but he did step up to the plate with that. I also think the US's ability to contain the middle east is rather exaggerated. Considering that, he is done an okay job on that front and did get bin laden.
P.S. I just saw your comment on Ebola, ISIS and Ukraine. On ISIS, the level of barbarism and ruthlessness is not something that could have been foreseen. On Ukraine, seriously regardless of which president was in the WH, the options would have been limited. I would cut him slack on those two fronts.
