bw's mention of l.shankar in the other thread made me look for this. i heard him many years ago on stage with zakir hussain when he played this ragam. it is a very rare carnatic ragam, sounds a bit like the hindustani jog and very close to the carnatic raga bahudari. i've never heard anyone else play it or sing it on the concert stage.  it's a wonderful bluesy melody.
