Lord Rama eating meat is not surprising at all as he was a kshatriya. In Puranic age even Brahmins used to eat meat. Sage Agasthya ate and digested the demon Vathapi, who was served to him in the form of goat meat.

The Centre’s recent proposal to popularise Hindi as the main medium of official communication by asking government officials in the South and the North-East regions to speak in it has angered Tamil leader M Karunanidhi.

It was Buddha who popularized fastidious vegetarianism that later got integrated into 'Hinduism'.
In Ramayana times people probably ate horse meat as well.
