Etymology of Iyer and Iyengar
Per someone's unsupported view:
"aaryar" (aryan sir) became "ayyar" and evolved into "Iyer."
"aaryam kara" (a guy who is manmade/pronounced as aryan) became "ayyangar" and then Iyengar.
