chinggis ( real name of genghis ) khan only sacked russia---or rather his sons did . he himself never set his foot there .
later it was conquered by his descendant batu , who set up the khanate of the golden horde from sarai on the volga .
what will make to rashmunullah and maulana merlot jump in sheer joy is the fact that batu's successors converted to islam

centuries later the liberation of russia from the mongol/muslim yoke was started by ruler of moscow Dmitri Donskoi who defeated the mongols for the first time in the battle of kulikovo .
but he was only taking advantage of the weakening of the golden horde---which started when its ruler challenged the power of timur the lame and was soundly defeated by timur who sacked the capital sarai leaving the horde weakened and the russians free to drive the mongols out .

The word / name "Khan" has its roots as being related to a certain tribe or tribes living perhaps originally in the central asian region. Khan had nothing to do in the beginning with any particular religion. I knew a guy once claiming to be Krishan Khan .. he was a Hindu and his ancestors had moved to India long ago from Afghanistan.

His original name apparently was Timuzhin or Timolin or some such thing. His religion was paganism I think. Didn't Mongols embrace Buddhism?
Genghis Kahn would not be famous if his descendents in central asia didn't embrace iSlam. India would not be alive if Moghuls didn't invade. Tamil Nadu would living in dark ages if Arcot monomaniac didn't do any pieceful activity. Karnataka, Telangana and Maharashtra would be in stone age if Bahamani sultans didn't bless these areas. Fukularism and self-deprication zindabad.

Chingiz Khan was the official title of the Mongol chieftain
Temujin or Tamurchi, born in 1162, who acquired ascendancy

nehru's admiration is more of an asian's ( asiatic's ?? ) admiration for a fellow asiatic . when he wrote this the europeans still ruled india and had superiority complex . they all idolized alexander the great etc . nehru wanted to remind them that asia had produced the biggest conquerer of all time---bigger than alexander---and asians were nothing inferior to them .

interestingly sarai on the volga from where the mongols ruled russia was more like city of tents rather than permanent dwellings . because of this its traces are hard to find today and archeologists are not sure as to exactly where it stood .
