i have bought way too many books that i never read, so am not gonna run and buy this series, but will check it out when and if i can, not that I am religions (not any more), but would be interesting to see a modern take on hindu beliefs.

Amish Tripathi was set as a great author with his debut novel, The Immortals of Meluha, which became a best seller and reserved a spot on the top-seller chart within just a week of its launch. Shiva Linga

All the different names for one God (Brahman) and different ways of offering worship and prayer!
Shiva Linga (auspicious symbol, in Sanskrit), made of stone etc. and depicting fire / flame (especially during yajna), was originally (long ago) introduced to carry out the Vedic worship (yajna) easily, quickly and at any time, without having to light the actual fire which would be difficult to keep burning during unfavorable conditions (such as in the open and in rain etc.) and which would be difficult to start easily and quickly (such as by rubbing the sticks).
Shiva linga, made of stone etc. (in the image of flame or fire of yajna), thus made the traditional / Vedic worship of God quickly and easily feasible and possible any time.
In addition, the libations were poured over the Shiva linga during post-Vedic worship, just like they used to be poured originally (during Vedic age) in the fire of original Vedic yajna (dedicated especially to Agni, one of the names for Brahman in the Veda).
Incidentally, Shiva (the name acquired over time for Brahman during post-Vedic era) represents essentially the Vedic deity Agni (one of the names for Brahman in the Veda).
