who would have thunk? Vada+curry

Vada Curry
Vada curry is a very famous side dish for idlis, dosais ,pooris in south India, especially in Tamil nadu. Its a curry in which chunks of vadais are added. It tastes yummy and tangy.I love to make it for idlis.Had some left over vadai batter in the freezer.Thought of using it in vada curry.Prepared today's dinner ,vada curry and idlis. My husband ,even tried with parottas. He loved it a lot.

arre. this is one of my most favorite dishes since childhood. One of my aunts, god bless her soul, used to make it the best. To make it, you make lauki kofte (bottle gourd fried dumplings) first, I think the idea is to not make them too soft. Make curry w/tomato gravy (maybe onion too, but forgetting). If I remember, it would not be thick in consistency, but the kind that can easily be soaked by the kofte. A little before serving, dump the kofte in the curry. Best to be eaten with roti. I attempted to make it here a couple of times, but my gravy was a flop. Will learn it the next time i go to india.

missed this. my mother use to make that exact ghia kofta curry with tomato puree. we don't make it much now (i think never); partly because i don't get the same taste and partly because since we now cook non veg at home, we go for the mutton kofta alternative. this is what ganpath cooked a few days ago for the missus and kid (mutton kofta curry):

Indian curries have such overpowering flavor, you could dunk anything into it and it'll still taste good. See how popular paneer dishes are. That damn thing has zero flavor, and yet people quaff it up like it's the most delicious thing on earth.

Pizza pieces would actually be a huge improvement over paneer. In any event, most curries are eaten with roti aka bread anyway. There is little difference between using bread to mop up the curry vs dunking the bread in the curry and eating it all together.
