Consider the following two verses (4.36 & 9.32) in the Bhagavad Gita (in the words of Krishna) with respect to salvation of sinners.

“Even if you are the greatest of sinners, with the help of wisdom you shall cross the sea of evil,” BG (4.36);

“For all those who come to me (Krishna / God) for shelter, be they sinful, or humble, or women, or vaishya, or sudra, they all attain salvation,” BG (9.32)  

Similarly, Sankara did not oppose Sudra acquiring knowledge in Sanskrit and Vedas, considering he offered no opposition or criticism towards Valmiki, Satyakama and Vyasa, all of whom had become brahmins, and even great sages, after learning Sanskrit and Vedas in spite of their original Sudra connections / backgrounds (according to birth).
