Ashdoc's movie review---The iron lady
The movie is about Margaret Thatcher , the ex-prime minister of Britain .
It shows the iron lady in old age , where the future is already here.....and its dominated by------Pakistan !!
For in her old age she has to go to buy her things from a Pakistani supermarket , and it is news from Pakistan that she watches on all the time television ; typically , its about bomb blasts ( what else happens in that country anyway )......the Pakis are crawling all over the British isles.....
And her other obsession is her dead husband , who is a constant presence in her life ; actually in her all too senile mind.....
.......For she is forever talking to him and imagining that he is alive in her life and fussing over him ; or maybe it is her love for him in action.....
But this is the biggest flaw in the movie---the fact that it shows the senile old Margaret Thatcher far too many times when it was supposed to showcase the iron lady ; a dynamic leader of a nation with a glorious past.....
Instead , it shows the old Thatcher a large part of the time , and her early life is shown in flashbacks of her remembering it .
......And her earliest memories are of the German bombings of London in the world war---the time of the blitz.....
She , a grocer's daughter gets a degree in Oxford and then launches her political career in the conservative party .
She meets her husband there , and when he proposes to her she clearly tells him in no uncertain words that she wont be the typical housewife , and that she wants to be something in life---in short , a politician....
......And heartwarmingly , her future husband says , '' thats exactly why I want to marry you '' ......and only then does she agrees to kiss him.....
Two lovely children follow , and she steadily rises in the political career till she becomes prime minister......but all the while she is a doting mother and wife too.....
Her bold reforms arouse fierce opposition as she plans to crack down on the trade unions who have become too big and have halted economic progress in Britain , and people close to her are killed by bombs planted by the Irish republican army .
.....But she faces both threats boldly until her finest hour arrives---the Falklands war......
And it is in this war that Britain's first female prime minister shows that she is the only MAN in the country by taking bold aggressive decisions that tilt the war in favour of the British.....
Her popularity soars , and she becomes the longest serving prime minister in the twentieth century . But her fall comes when she is seen by her colleagues as too dictatorial .
But instead of concentrating on her achievements , the movie concentrates too much on her old age and hence fails .
Verdict---dull and boring .

Re: Ashdoc's movie review---The iron lady
Thanks for the review. LOL at the pak bombings comment. I had thought the movie was meant to be historical but glad to know before I checked it out.
As an aside, the Falklands war was almost comical, with the brits sending in their boats which seemed liked it took forever to get to the Falklands. The Argentines losing this pretty much showed the world they were a bunch of keystone cops.

the argentine navy was called the '' one shot navy '' . once one of their main ships ( cruiser belgrano ) was sunk by the british , their navy never returned to the fight . they just gave it one shot .
