Could be a smart man -butalso the "quota" could have played a little part. If an Indian or a Chinku with tattoos had applied to Harvard or JHU, he would not have been admitted by the school(s) in the first place.
#44 was personally known to - a fat (at that time), India-born, dark SI kid who went to Princeton first before transferring to Delaware after 2 weeks bcz he did not like the place.

Conclusion: He could not get into IIT.
