Hyderabad State
The old Hyderabad state before being cut up and merged with Andhra (the part that is known as Telangana), Maharashtra, and Karnataka.
The pieces that went to Maharashtra and Andhra are about the same size. The territory that went to Karnataka is about half the size.
With significant and relatively comparable territory size going to the 3 states, why was there dissatisfaction and agitation only in the AP piece (Telangana) enough to form a new state? The other areas seem to have been happily merged and jelled with the politics in other states.

The Yellowish green area is Hyderabad. The area to the west of the red lines went to Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Re: Hyderabad State
Simple! The Hyderabad part of AP has seen tremendous development, esp in the past 15-20 yrs. So the telang losers want to grab it from the rest of AP by hook or crook and have it all for themselves. Such kind of development is not seen in the Hyd bits that went to Maharastra and Karnataka. Besides, the telangs know that if they try claim those areas, the maharastrians and kannadigas are going to kick their butts real bad.

I think Vidarbha will eventually be a separate state. We may see a Vidarbha statehood party affect electoral outcomes even in the 2014 elections, although statehood movements usually take more time than a year to coalesce.indophile wrote:The old Hyderabad state before being cut up and merged with Andhra (the part that is known as Telangana), Maharashtra, and Karnataka.

You are wrong about Vidarbha. Nagpur, the past and potential capital of Vidarbha, has seen excellent growth. Secondly, Vidarbha is not for the people of Telangana to claim. Vidarbha is for the people of Vidarbha to claim away from the rest of Maharashtra. I will ignore the rest of your post because you seem to be angry and upset today.kinnera wrote:Simple! Re: Hyderabad State
Now that Telangana arrived, it looks like Hyderabad is going to be commercially dominated by Gujaratis (it already is somewhat), and culturally dominated by Maharastrians and Muslims.

I agree. The main reason for Telangana agitation is the development of Hyderabad and the greed to gobble it up after it is developed. Carvaka's sentiments for Telangana prevent him from being objective. So, don't worry if he is looking at your post with colored glasses. People of SA have been taken for a ride for the last 50 years. They invested in Hyderabad with good intentions (it is not close to SA areas). They could have done that in their own areas but didn't since they believed that the T region wouldn't back stab. Now that T is separating, SA people should at least be happy that they don't need to sleep with a hyena. If T went this far just for Hyderabad, just imagine how they will behave when it comes to negotiations on revenue and water sharing, etc. I think SA should shed the soft-corner they have for T and ensure that they won't be taken for a ride again in future. They should develop their region with determination and help the youth in getting employment in SA since, in future, they will not be treated well in T. Some of the central institutes in Hyderabad should move to SA. They should also put pressure on CONs to give special grants to develop backward areas in R and A so that the whole of SA will be FAR MORE developed than any region in T. People of SA are resourceful, intelligent and hard-working. If they put their minds to it, they can make SA region the envy of the country.

I agree. They shld now move on and focus on developing their own regions well. I hope the ones who invested in hyd will slowly divert those investments to their own regions. With hard work, determination and their intelligence, they can easily surpass the development that we've seen in hyd.

If they redraw the border according the 1956 map, roughly, a third of Khammam (including Bhadrachalam) will go to E Godavari district. Those negotiations will start before the bill is introduced in parliament. SA politicians should shed their soft-corner for T in the negotiations.

I heard that the plan is to merge bhadhrachalam mandal with e.godavari and aswaraopet mandal in w.godavari from revenue division perspective. they might as well do the same with khammam proper and kallur and merge it with krishna dist.

And you, guruvu-garu, are very objective when it comes to this issue! Accusing Telangana people of backstabbing, calling them hyenas, etc.Vakavaka Pakapaka wrote:Carvaka's sentiments for Telangana prevent him from being objective.
They invested in Hyderabad because they saw an opportunity to make money. Just like Telugu people from AP invest in Bangalore or Chennai. And their investments are protected, and will be protected in a Telangana state, just like they are protected in a Karnataka state.Vakavaka Pakapaka wrote:People of SA have been taken for a ride for the last 50 years. This is the funniest part of your post. What soft corner did SA have to T? The one with which you call T a hyena? The one with which you habitually mock their language? The one with which you migrate to their region because you see opportunity for yourself there, but then pretend to be superior to the locals and mock them?Vakavaka Pakapaka wrote:I think SA should shed the soft-corner they have for T.

lets not get too carried away now, ppl from SA didnt invest in hyd out of goodness of their heart, they were chasing opportunity. it's the shortsightedness and personal greed of the CMs we had over the ages that they didnt develop coastal/rayalaseema etc industrially. if they had actually improved infrastructure sooner than they did, industry might have developed outside of hyd and this move wouldnt have fucked them so badly. shortsightedness, poor planning and terrible execution have always been the bane of indians so nothing new.
but the admin is strongly opposed to locals making it hard for outsiders living in telangana so dont panic.

How do you expect others to say that T bhasha is bland, if it is very colorful? I am happy for SA guys that they don't need to indulge in Turaka any more LOL.

Everything that carvaka said in this post about you is true. Your posts repeatedly mock and demean Telangana. If you dislike it so much, you should be happy that now it is going to be a separate state. Nothing that you post regarding this topic is objective, and it is incredulous really, for all these biased people to come together, and talk about colored glasses and objectivity etc.
You know no one needed to indulge in Turaka or whatever that is, all these years either. I can't think of one compelling reason why people would dislike a dialect or a culture that much and yet live there.

marathwada was neglected by the nizam and is more than happy to be part of maharashtra as it has nothing to gain by seperationg .

Strong words, Unkil. Let's now look at it a little more dispassionately. When you say "invested in Hyderabad", I'm guessing you mean they bought real estate there. And surely, they did that for the fantastic asset appreciation Hyderabad was providing, and not out of any love for the city or the land. So why is it such a tragedy and a "backstab" if Hyderabad will eventually be part of a different state?

You should stop reading pro-T blogs
It's more like investments made by the govt. over the years. They failed to develop a second city with decent infrastructure and/or facilities.

If you don't see the injustice done to Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra, and are carried away by media assertions of T-politicians and student leaders, you are keeping yourself in a burkha. Yesterday, one OU "student" who was involved in "Andhrawaalom bhaago", arson and violence, etc., in the past ,was talking "peace, brotherhood, Costa-Telangana bhai bhai". I am sure, the amnesic media and you are satisfied with the lectures by the vegetarian tiger sawmiji.
