Demand for new states
"An impression is going out that an agitation can lead to creation of a new state, be it in Bundelkhand, Maharashtra, Gorkhaland or in our state. What will you tell people of Jammu -- agitate for seven or eight years and you will get a separate state? This is a dangerous thing," he said. The J&K chief minister said the job of creating new states should be entrusted to the States Reorganisation Commission. "If there is a need to create new states, the job should be entrusted to the States Reorganisation Commission."
Already Gorkhaland, Vidarbha, Hitesh Pradesh, Bundelkhand.....and wait for more to follow: Bodoland, KASHMIR, MALABAR, ThEn ThamiZH Naadu....just some 2-cent leader in these places taking the lead n calling for independent states....then things will take their own routes.
Stupid Congress and SELFISH congress.

Re: Demand for new states
I wonder: did you have a similar reaction when the BJP decided to create three new states, also with an angle on political gain?

There was no hyderabad like city involved in those new states' creation. It is not the same. This is big and totally different scenario now. Here the new state is the rest of AP who have to start everything from scratch and they never asked for it.
Watch out! This is going to trigger more regional fights and the disintegration of the states and maybe india. Who knows?

Then I guess you know the history/background of those bifurcations. 3 new states carved out of UP, Bihar, MP. These were very large states and agitation or no agitation there was the thought of divvying up these states. That is why you dont see any lingering major issues between them and the parent states.
Telengana and Rayalaseema issues are different, and the problems will continue (forever). Besides, there was no call for Gorkhaland, Bodoland, vidarbha after BJP created those states as those were PRIMARILY created for better governance. Same cannot be said of Telengana and hence the immediate call for division of other states.

Re: Demand for new states
You are wrong. The call for Telangana was revived right after the BJP created those three new states. And even back then, there were similar stories about calls for statehood for Vidarbha and others.Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:Besides, there was no call for Gorkhaland, Bodoland, vidarbha after BJP created those states as those were PRIMARILY created for better governance. The call for telengana was raised in 1969. It was Sonia and Co who let KCR resurreect it. If the HIGH COMMAND had said "sushhhhh" KCR would hv shut up. So the blame for Telengana is entirely Sonia's.

Re: Demand for new states
You are again wrong. KCR was a TDP MLA who was denied a minister post in 2000 or thereabouts. He saw an opportunity with the creation of three new states by BJP to revive the Telangana issue. Congress didn't get involved until a year or so later.Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:Idéfix wrote:You are wrong. The call for Telangana was revived right after the BJP created those three new states. Ironically it was YSR who resurrected Telegana demand to unseat TDP from power. But then he as expected of any Congress politician did a U-Turn after getting elected and said no to it.

Re: Demand for new states
The main problem in india is a bloated public sector with high paying jobs and perks and where people literally goof off and take bribes.. thats one of the main reasons why they want new states.. new state = new state government jobs. none of these other political gains make any sense.
Although, creating more states may not be a bad idea provided it is really based on population/demographics/availability of resources as opposed to political reasons. Technically it could make the states more efficient because fewer people, in general implies fewer problems. The bigger problem I see is the issues between the states like water disputes, etc.

I agree with you. Smaller states are fine if it's going to facilitate ease of administration. It should be done impartially, without any political gains and without hurting anyone's feelings or interests. The way the telangana thing happened shouldn't happen to any other state. So much bad blood and so many baseless allegations against non-T'ites! It all created a lot of hurt and anger. That is not nice.
