"U.N. spokesman’s office said Monday the U.S. State Department must approve the transfer of Devyani Khobragade from her consulate post to India’s U.N. Mission."

I guess the diplomatic immunity and related papers have to be approved by the State Dept. Of course, if it raises objections - which is very very rare as even Iranians are allowed to address UN - then UN Secr Gen should protest (not likely).

Remember about 25 years ago, when US refused to pay its share (Reagan), UN threatened to move to Geneva and the US buckled.

US routinely approves UN diplomatic immunity. Here this Indian woman is already charged in US courts and may be convicted. Indian gov is trying every trick in the book to get her out of a possible jail sentence. So US will not approve UN request for immunity for her past acts saying that she is already charged with a crime in US.

Makes sense, this probably is the only way to sideline DOJ.

Agree.....She has committed the worst crime that anyone can think of. When the US banned your Commander Pirabhakiller on a banned list and black list and called him a terrorist and what not, although he committed only petty crimes like killing innocent people and recruiting children to be human bombs.
