Tamil Nadu government will not manage famous temple, rules Supreme Court

New Delhi:  The Supreme Court today ruled that the famous Nataraja temple in the town of Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu will be managed by priests and not the state government.

In 2009, the Madras High Court had transferred the administration of the 1000-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva to the government that was then headed by M Karunanidhi. That verdict was based on the allegation that the temple's considerable wealth was being mismanaged.

The decision was challenged by the temple's priests who belong to the Dikshithar sect and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.

The state government in 1987 had appointed an official to manage the endowments and considerable assets and property owned by the temple.

The temple is spread over a complex that's 40 acres large.

We do not accept Indian Supreme Court's jurisdiction over internal affairs in Tamil Nadu. Let it limit itself to interstate matters like Cauvery dispute.

This is the same unjust supreme court that allows Hindi as court language in the highcourts of Hindi states but refuses Tamil as court language in Tamkil Nadu. Unjust supreme court down down.

I fully support the verdict of the supreme court.

However, one cannot assume a Tamil will always have best intrests of Tamil.
For example, I know a Tamilian who was born and raised in Pune hates Chennai and the culture there. He is more Marathi than Marathis themselves.

thats because your aquaintance was born and raised in Pune. Sathasivam has spent almost all his life in Tamil Nadu as per his wikipedia page:

the possibility of someone who has lived all his life in a particular indian state not keeping the interest of his home state in mind seems to me to be pretty remote.
