Re: The Cosmopolitisation of Chennai ( through Hindi)
Reading this article helps one understand why a few NRI Tamils who left Tamil Nadu 10-20 ( or more) years ago and have failed to keep track of changes taking place in TN are stuck in some kind of a time warp. Tamils in TN have moved on. There is no longer any hostility towards Hindi among the masses in Tamil Nadu who have seen through the games played by politicians. But a section of the NRI Tamils continue to remain hostile towards hindi not realizing the ground level changes that have taken place in TN since the time they left their home state.

The "punjabification of tamil culture"is an interesting phrase. But one can hardly blame punjabis or even North Indians if Tamilians themselves wish to change their diet/cuisine, or if they wish to wear North Indian clothes ( like the women wearing salwaar kameez and the men wearing Kurta pajama).

Just as Tamil culture is being north indianised with respect to clothing, cuisine, etc. so North Indian culture is being tamilised or rather south indianised. The Masala Dosa was voted the national dish of India in a poll taken by Outlook magazine.

The real question is, did your partner move on or stuck in a time wrap? Kindly let us know the answer.Rashmun wrote:Reading this article helps one understand why a few NRI Tamils who left Tamil Nadu 10-20 ( or more) years ago and have failed to keep track of changes taking place in TN are stuck in some kind of a time warp.
