Majority of Gujarat prisoners are Dalits
http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/majority-of-gujarat-prisoners-are-dalits/1/400704.htmlAround 32.9 per cent of all convicts and 23.4 per cent of undertrials in Gujarat's prisons are Dalits, a community that forms just about 6.7 per cent of the state's overall population.
Interestingly, a comparison with other states suggests that the gap between the proportion of Dalit prisoners and their overall numbers in Gujarat is higher than any other part of India.

CONartists tried this kind of garbage at Modi when he was the CM and it turned out that they were spitting into the wind. Now, Sonia and Pappu are crying every night and wondering why they lost in successive elections.
The voters are not stupid. Politicians who use garbage to malign others can no longer get away with it.
If MT says, "Garibi Hatao", the poor will throw shoes at her.

These stats corroborate the nature of bias and discrimination of upper caste Hindus in Gujarat.Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:What did you expect? The Majority of the prisoners is not muslim ? Disappointed?

Hearing the PIL filed by advocate R Chandrashekhar Reddy, challenging the indiscriminate release of several life convicts facing murder and other grave charges, a bench of Justices B N Agrawal and D K Jain posted the matter for August 16.
The list of prisoners includes several political leaders including Goru Venkat Reddy, husband of a sitting Congress MLA, who has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

I fail to understand the relation of the above news item with this thread. In any case, in A.P, SC/ST [percentage of the] population is probably 3 times larger than in Gujarat yet the percentage of dalit convicts is not disproportionate as in Gujarat. Do you see the eerie similarities between blacks arrests in the US and the BJP/RSS ruled Gujarat. I'm afraid this will become a national trend if BJP manages to win next two LokSabha elections.truthbetold wrote:

CD
before you draw parallels, you have to do more careful study.
There are more vegetarians in Gujarat than other states. does that prove anything?
If you want raise a concern, may be I will consider that as a reasonable point. But your propensity to jump to conclusions at any anti modi numbers makes people disagreeable.
You are implying that all Gujarat courts are letting go patel, katri, brahmin, etc. criminals. Hard to believe.

Re: Majority of Gujarat prisoners are Dalits
These numbers were reported by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and posted in a reputed national news outlet, which says that numbers of Dailt convicts is 5 times higher than their share in the state's population. This doesn't look like a recent trend check out the link below, it has stats going back to the '90s.truthbetold wrote:CD

Re: Majority of Gujarat prisoners are Dalits
I did not look at the numbers yet.
CD said "This doesn't look like a recent trend check out the link below, it has stats going back to the '90s."
CD concludes " I'm afraid this will become a national trend if BJP manages to win next two LokSabha elections."
Here are the facts:
1. BJP started its innings in 1995. Before that INC and other "secular" and "progressive" parties are in govt.
2. It takes a number of years for a case to go through the court process in Indian system. So the people incarcerated in between 1990 to 2000 are probably arrested and convicted in non BJP or early BJP years. Hence they indicate a normal gujarat social trends.
Problem with your conclusion:
1. You have to show that either from around 1999 (assuming 3 to 4 years judicial process turnaround) a spike in sc/st numbers vs past years. Failure to show that shows a continuation of historical trends. If you fail to show a change or spike in trend, your projection on all india basis under BJP govt is meaningless.
2. Gujarat upper caste bias is another issue. If it exists, it did not cross gujarat all these years according to your own statements (ex: AP info you quoted). Just because one person from gujarat became prime minister, how can he change the social behaviour of the enitre Bharat? Was there any historical example? Gandhi or Nehru or Indira ? Was Sonia able to push an Italian agenda in the past 10 years?
