Buttermilk, coconut, nuts, urad-dal, garlic ..... what kind of sambar is this? But we must admit it's a decent attempt at NSEW synthesis. Somewhat a mixture of Punjabi kadi, Kerala coconut, okra + that paste from TN. Why not throw in some gongura from AP, freshwater fish from Bengal, and some shrimp and dried saltwater fish from Kerala to add a little more flavor, and call it All-Indian dish. He may garnish it with some Hyderabadi mirchi.

Coconut oil?  May be, the dish is from Kerala.
