...Kholi and Sastry have been touting Rohit as THE #3 and how his attack will help put up a big score. Now when Vijay got out after 3 balls, in comes Rahane - instead of THE #3. Does it mean the guys were lying and are they protecting Rohit? Or, are they saying Rohit is no good #3 and has to go at whatever position is least pressure for him ?

Pujara would have gone in at #3 and would have steadied whatever the situation - even with a 40/50.

Kohli should be fired from captaincy

Rohit proves he is THE #3 (down) by scoring 79.

He now seals his place in the playing XI for the next 5 years.

After first innings failure batting at #3, Rahane came through with flying colors in 2nd innings. Interestingly, all his 4 test centuries came at away grounds.

Ajinkya Rahane’s 126 is his fourth Test century — his first vs Sri Lanka.
Rahane has recorded all his four centuries in overseas Tests — 147 vs Australia at Melbourne, 118 vs New Zealand at Wellington and 103 vs England at Lord’s — all three last year and 126 vs Sri Lanka at P Sara Oval, Colombo
Amongst the Indian players, only two had made more away hundreds before posting a hundred in India — 8 by Sunil Gavaskar and 5 by Rahul Dravid.
Rahane is averaging 49.37 in 16 Tests away from home — his tally being 1333 at a strike rate of 56.79, including four hundreds and seven fifties.
Rahane’s 126 is the highest individual score by India’s number three batsman against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, bettering the 125 by Vinod Kambli at Colombo, SSC in 1993.
Before Rahane’s feat, Rahul Dravid was last India’s number three batsman to post a century in Sri Lanka — 107 at Colombo, SSC in February 1999.
Vijay and Rahane were associated in a partnership of 140 — India’s highest second-wicket stand in the second innings vs Sri Lanka. The said stand is India’s second highest for any wicket in the second innings vs Sri Lanka next only to the 171 for the first wicket between Manoj Prabhakar and Navjot Singh Sidhu at Colombo, SSC in 1993.

all one needs now is to replace Rohit with Pujara to balance the aggression of Dawan and Kohli.

yep. that shuld be enough to keep pujara out for this sseries. Rohits 100 in 20/20 HAS to better than Pujara's 135 in test.
