An open note from afar to Prime Minister Modi Empty An open note from afar to Prime Minister Modi

Dear Prime Minister Modi

Two years of your speeches, full of lofty words, heavy on rhetoric and devoid of substance have finally caught up with you and unfortunately India has been the duped loser. The last two years of your regime have been the BJP’s amateur hour and sadly for India the chickens have come home to roost.

India’s foreign policy has hit a horrible patch. At its own and its lackey Pakistan’s behest China has successfully thwarted India’s bid to join the Nuclear suppliers Group and delivered to your government its biggest black eye internationally. The Chinese armed forces continue to repeatedly cross with impunity the Line of Actual Control with its border with India. Your overtures to the Chinese have failed and your China policy lies in tatters.

Your seemingly admirable, much publicised and out of the box ambitious outreach to Pakistan has not worked at all. Pakistan continues to finance and encourage unrest and terror in Kashmir and Punjab. The calm of the last few years in Kashmir now stands terribly disturbed. Kashmir is on the boil internally.

Pakistan has upped the ante by appealing to the UN to intervene in what is clearly an internal matter for India. Pakistan has further poked you in the eye by observing ‘Black Day’ to highlight the trouble in the valley.

The current troubles in Kashmir can be traced, at least partly, to the tone deaf response of your regime and the BJP to the abominable cow vigilantism and the disturbances at educational institutions such as NIT Srinagar.

The cow vigilantism is running amok in the country. Whether it was the truckers carrying cows in Kashmir, Mohammed Akhlaq, the recent pubic beatings of dalits by the cow vigilantes or the dozens of other recent incidents of cow vigilantism– all of it a matter of national shame– it must stop. India must not allow religious bigotry to run rampant and trample underfoot minorities in India. India is a secular, multifaith and multiethnic country. It can’t afford to ignore the violent fanaticism and extremism fuelling the modern cow crusaders. You mustn’t allow religious bigotry to once again tear India asunder.

As the head of the government of India, you are the chief guarantor of each and every Indians’ right to equality, life and liberty. The foremost obligation of any government is the security and safety of its citizens from foreign aggression and domestic criminals. Your deafening silence about the cow vigilante gangsterism wreaking havoc in the country truly calls into question your ability to lead a secular India.

India is in the midst of an internal turmoil the likes of which we haven’t seen for a long time. And Prime Minister, what makes it worse is the precarious situation India faces on its Western and Northern borders.

Prime Minister, under these circumstances, for you, silence is not an option. Please speak up and reassure the country that you are alive to the very real external and domestic dangers India faces.

Sincerely
Ujjal Dosanjh, NRI.

It doesn't appear that he has learned a thing yet, successful foreign policy isn't directly proportional to the accumulated frequent flyer miles. Let's hope that he will get it someday at the expense of India's future that is.

Don't worry, Comrade. He will soon turn to armchair advisors like you who are obsessed with him.

Agree...India should prove its secularism and the principle that all are same before the law by implementing U C C.

How about convincing your "secualar" friends who practice iSlam and Jehadism in the name of secularism?
