Home price tied to social segregation?
http://realestate.yahoo.com/promo/facebooks-mark-zuckerberg-buys-7-million-home.html
Zuckerber's ordinary looking home is $7 mill. Reason, it lets him live in the neighborhood (palo Alto) that has only people who can afford $5 mill homes. People are likely to be MOSTLY whites in their homes (% wise) (hispanics ONLY 6% - that too in a city in California?)
This is, by any name, racism.
In India slums and lower class homes can be seen mixed in with middle and upper class homes. But with the mass developers doing much of the construction, this type of Class-segregation is becoming common.

Not legally... but socially. Who can afford $5 mil ? Very few black couple are that rich (again % wise). Many times, a successful black guy will end up marrying a white woman and that Black guy is a neighborhood trophy. Real agents can drive away potential blacks - even mega millionaires - their motive? Will tell you some other time.
All they need to say is "Someone could have died in that house - perhaps the previous owner, not so sure" and watch the buyer hesitate.
My Brooklyn house owner told me how he turned away those he did not like in a perfectly legal way.
Things you can only get through Tapas in a tree shade.

Re: Home price tied to social segregation?
My sister sold her house in a good chicago school district... here is how it went.. this pretty young black couple with one 3-year-old kid wanted to buy the house, gave a decent offer... however it took them months to get a bank approval, many times it got rejected, but they kept at it... finally after 4 months were they able to do the closing. The loan/house was in some older persons name, and they are the ones that showed up for the closing. Most likely the parents of one of the couple.
Once my sister ran into one of the neighbours.. ATLEAST 5 kids take different school buses, elementary through high school, from that house...
Guess this is how it works for them.. one person affords a house in a good locale, and others send down the kids, maybe only during the week days to study there. This is there way of slowly go towards progress, shows some sort of family solidarity and sharing expenses... Also, guess this is enough to make others start moving out slowly from there.

===> Very Simple.
If a couple of Black move into predominantly white neighborhood, potential white owners would balk. The whites will shy away. The average house price will fall. And the real estate agents will find their comissions decrease. That is why the real estate agents steer potential black homeowners into a black neighborhood.

It's gonna change soon as many parts of the country are trending towards majority-minority.
