....During the colonial era, England identified Australia, North-western Burma, etc., as places to dump criminals and "undesirable" elements. In the Madras presidency, they created a village and named it "Stuartpuram" (now in AP) where a community called "Yerukula" was dumped. People of the region looked at everybody who lived in Stuartpuram with suspicion, an attitude that persisted even after India got independence. During 1950's and 60's, when a train goes through this area, people closed the window shutters and locked the doors! If there were robberies in the neighbourhood, Yerukula guys were blamed (and were often beaten up)....
