Re: Indo Serbian synthesis
Sabun is Arabic in origin I think.
صابون
The Turkish word is also Sabun which probably came from Arabic and that is how it was probably absorbed into Serbian.

“Nindak niyare rakhiye aangan kuti chhawaye;
Bin sabun pani bina nirmal karat subhaye.”
― Kabir
(from wiki.. The years of Kabir's birth and death are unclear. Some historians favor 1398–1448 as the period Kabir lived, while others favor 1440–1518)
did hindus have a 'sabun' or is it an imported commodity/word?

wow, good find! I am guessing it is an imported word from Persian.rasāsvāda wrote:“Nindak niyare rakhiye aangan kuti chhawaye;

Digging further, from
http://www.iranicaonline.org/articles/soap
"Soap manufacturing must have been of considerable economic importance, for the Timurid ruler Šāhroḵ (r. 1405-47) established a state-owned soap works (ṣābunḵāna-ye dawlati). However after protests by the soap workers, he ordered the closing of the works and permitted again soap production by private operators (Maṭlaʿ al-saʿdayn, ed. Šafiʿ, II, pp. 319-20)."
