The crimes were committed in India. He should have been extradited to be tried and punished under Indian law.

He should have been extradited to India. I can't understand him getting a reduced sentence of 35 years for co-operating with the Drug Enforcement Agency in doing surveillance work for them. What kind of a deal was that? The whole thing stinks.

The govt's escapist answer to "Why?" would be - "to maintain peace and to prevent unproductive disturbances and social upheaval."

I'd rather than india not waste financial and emotional resources on a fuckwit like this. let americans sponsor his incarceration and anal rape by bubba. desh can save the money of the trial etc and spend it on some VIPs travel abroad.

Yeah, put a small sized smooth-sided soap (like the one they give in hotels/motels) in his hand and push him into the prison showers.

he's probably gonna be popular with his islam brothers (islam is the fastest growing religion in american jails) who'll protect him/keep him for themselves.

In his plea bargaining, he was given assurance that he won't be extradited. I think, India has agreed with the US on this (although Chdmbrm made noises re extradition for the media) for getting vital information from Headley, which he did give. Let him rot in jail - it is better than being hanged,

Extradite him to India and then what?? Our bumbling cops are only good for arresting and harassing 21-year olds for their Facebook posts. They wouldn't be able to build a half-decent case against him that would stand up in any court. He would then get acquited unless some vigilante judge locks him up despite everything, claiming that the national conscience would not permit his acquittal.*
Good the Americans got him and put him away.
*And 3 years later, the next NDA govt would happily swap him for a bunch of hostages taken by some Paki terrorists. The uber-patriotic, ten-heads-demanding Home Minister Sushma Swaraj would personally fly over to Karachi to deliver Headley-ji and a few million dollars as a tip.

Koboletely agree... Even worse, one of million useless courts will release him due to bungling of evidence by cops - who can EASILY be bribed for Rs 50.
If he gets the iSlamic Bubba treatment in US jails that will suffice.

India's Home Secretary R.K.Singh must be high on some home-grown weed. Excerpts from today's TOI.
NEW DELHI: In the first formal reaction to the American-Pakistani terrorist David Coleman Headley's sentencing, home secretary R K Singh on Friday said, "Our view is that all those involved in 26/11 case should receive death penalty. That has been our consistent stand".
Though Singh said India still wanted Headley to get death sentence, he did not explain how it was still possible since a US court had already awarded him jail term of 35 years -- with the judge explaining that the death penalty was not possible under his plea bargaining clauses and the leniency shown by the American prosecutors.
On possibility of Headley's extradition, Singh said, "The Indian request for his extradition remains (intact) and New Delhi will press for it".

Right on. I was happy Headley didn't get extradited to India.
He would have received the "Atithi Devo Bhava" treatment in Indian jails where top cops would look the International Human Rights rule book before every judgement, so as not to upset India's US masters. Headley could then get out of prison in 14-15 years to become pals with Owasi the 2nd Jinnah, become an Indian citizen and contest elections/win from a reserved seat in Mumbai/Hyderabad.
