hindians withdrew the order that IAS exams be in English and Hindi only after opposition from JL and MK. Why are the other non-Hindians silent?

*As a bleeding heart who would like to see some justice and equality for Srilankan Tamilians in their freedom movement..am glad to see the "tide finally turn" with facts coming out..finally majority-mainstream support for Tamilians worldwide from all segments..the renewed energy and power is just palpable..like tamilians just woke up and understand what has been/is going on!

I think everyone understands like other freedom struggles, this movement will take time, but is much bigger than any politics, individual/leaders dead or alive..everyone had/has a role to move forward and for changes to occur sooner or later. Even the useless movie stars..(like my fav- superstar Rajini) know they can't get away by being silent and looking the other way- when they have enjoyed so much loyal support from the tamil masses.

The Tamils are paying for the sins of the LTTE. Unfortunate, but that is the current state of affairs. They backed the wrong horse.

It so happens April Tamil Tribune has an article

"Indian Government Ignores Tamil Poet Thiruvalluvar"

Amon other things it discusses Indian Government Tourism Ministry's "sight and sound show" in Kanyakumari to attract tourists. This shoe=w concentrates on Vivekananda (vivek statue) and Gandhi (gandhi memorial) but ignores Thiruvalluvar whose 133 ft statue funded by TN is just next to Veivek statue.

There is a pattern of Indian Government ignoring or "hiding" Tamil history and culture in its projects while highlighting the culture and history of Hindi region. Indian government projects Indian history as the north-Hindi regional history in its history books, and projects the north-Hindi regional culture as Indian culture wherever it can.

I agrre, Maria, that World now sees that Sinhala politicians and monks are the problem and not Tamils. One thing that stands in the way is India, India, India.

Most of you do not agrre with me but Indian gov is anti-Tamil. It does not want Tamils getting equal rights anywhere in the world.

Coming back to IAS exams, why are non-Hindians oppose? TN takes the brunt and Hindians hate TN for not allowing Hindi supremacy but sometimes backdown as now. All non-Hindians benefit but Hindians hate TN.

There definitely is advantage in knowing Hindi and speaking Hindi, usually leading to better and more opportunities in work etc.

Watch in the 1961 movie "Nazrana" (the link below, at 2:23:00) two Tamil actors (Gemini Ganesan and Vyajantimala) conversing fluently in Hindi,

None of my American friends know Hindi. They are doing well.

Few in Singapore know Hindi. They have a better standard of living.
