...and WikiLeaks may have name of the new Pope.

I don't know who's not aware of corruption at the Vatican but am sure Horse Trading for a choice candidate include perks, contracts, control on Vatican's purse strings including holy issues, like setting up new candy shops in their region.

As a headline said..from the business perspective, it's really like electing the President-CEO of a mega-institution.

But, as Catholics feel..it is a serious search for leadership- ability to motivate and inspire from their faith-perspective. I am inspired by the real faith of young Catholics, in this time and age with so many distractions and temptations to even "try to" to be genuine and lead a life- giving up a lot, is something, imo.

Why is it such a big deal about the pope. Everyone has their own relationship with god, or none at all. Never understood the pope business and its importance.

I can easily understand the "primary" faith premise and connection, no matter- *which faith it may be.

Just like a family..people from the outside may never understand the family dynamics- deep connections and think it's "very weird" and they can never put up with it, faith connections are impossible to explain.

We tend to minimize and assume a lot of things- about matters which are not important to us, we are not interested in/or understand..it's very easy to do that.

And the secrecy. What's with the smoke signals? If they got a new dude picked, they can make an announcement on the PA system and tweet about it. It is the 21st century, really. If god didn't want us to have PA systems and the internet, he would not have invented them for us.

is there shamanism in africa? I was reading a book on ta(r)tars that said shamanism originated and is strictly limited to evenks inhabiting the siberian area...

To call this a religious organization is the biggest scandal. What with embassies around the world, state visits, and diplomatic immunity, etc...

Do heads of other religions have such amenities? And this for an organization with just 1 Billion followers.

Time to revoke all these favors and put them on par with other heads of religion.

I agree with you- in regards to unnecessary tax breaks and other diplomatic benefits.

BUT, like it or not..and whether I am a Catholic or not..it's a historic moment for a lot of people, including some friends.

I am happy for them.

There is so much drama in this, and the church gets so much positive media attention, they should make this happen every 4 years like the Olympics. They can do opening ceremonies for the conclave, vote-by-vote update and forensic analysis of the smoke collected through helicopter, and closing ceremonies followed by the big reveal.

It is all due to some financial related.. One of my trading friend/hedge fund manager from Europe says, the pope resigning due to health is not the real reason. Something else is the reason (financial issues/cardinals involvement in gambling may be... one..).

Apparently it's Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires- Argentina. He is the first Jesuit Pope of all time.

First impression: Pope Francis seems vibrant and has a nice voice.

From what I read.. is the child of a Railway worker, has an academic background in Philosophy and Psychology, Chemist too? Not sure.

May the divine light shine upon him- help him lead wisely!

I don't have to convert or pray for people from other faiths. And I will pray for everyone, including atheists- don't expect anyone to convert either.

Although, I may not like a lot of things about the Catholic Church..esp. when it comes to women's equality and the unnecessary extravagant traditions- which I see as very different from the simplicity of the core Christian faith, they have a new leader and his decisions will impact a lot of people/matters.

I would be glad to pray for you too, if you want me to.

I am glad there is no numeral attached to his name. Indicates a teeny tiny modicum of creativity and willing to break with tired old trends and dogmas. Presumably he was honoring Francis Xavier the missionary with this name, so it isn't that refreshing either.
