Ms. Singh said: “It does not wash that charges against Sanjay Dutt under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act were dropped … Politicians know that the 2014 polls are close and are attempting to prove their compassion by going [in] for such popularity gimmicks.”

“It could be politically correct, but legally it is all wrong,” Ms. Singh told The Hindu.

I do thnk this guy is a fool who didn't know what the scale of what he got into and I feel bad for him. However, the sticking point here is that there are several people who have been convicted who would qualify on that basis. The equality under the law becomes a farce, if that is how this unfolds.
