The Uncommon Union

She wasn't even born when who she should be married to was decided. Her father promises to his sister that if a daughter is born to him, he would marry her to her (sister's ) son. She was just 5 when she got married to him. She doesn't remember the wedding and doesn't know he is her husband until she was 10, when her grandmother mentions it to her. At 14, after her menarche, she goes to his live him. Soon after, they both elope to learn dance. He was passionate about dance and she wants to support him.
They become accomplished dancers, but she wasn't conceiving. So her mom in-law decides to marry him off the second time. Meanwhile, her 14 yr old sister who comes to live with her and her husband falls in love with him and proposes to him. He readily agrees. The wife agrees too because having a sister as a step wife is better than having someone else. He marries the second time. Both the women have a daughter each later and they all live happily ever after.
They are none other than the world famous kuchipudi dance pair, Radha and Raja Reddy and her sister, Kausalya Reddy. I feel bad for Radha though. Here's their interview with Karan Thapar. Interesting....

Did they get divorced before the second marriage or did they convert?

The whole day was depressing today. Even the so called uncommon love story that I read is depressing. I need a change. BAH.

No need to divorce. Even per hindu marriage law, the hoojband can be charged for marrying a second woman only if the first wife filed a complaint. If not they can live happily ever after.
