all clues except #2 were "fair" - #2 had the definition and word play jumbled up.

my favourites were AUDITOR and DYNAMO.

I disagree. Had I used "first" in place of "ahead of the rest" it would have been cracked instantly. Thanks for your kind words otherwise.

GC, i was referring to the definition-wordplay separation. in this clue, "sandy", the definition, was in the middle of the subsidiary definition/wordplay. anyway, am just nitpicking and thanks for creating a challenging set at such short notice.

Actually the definition "sandy" was at the end with the hint of first letters. Never mind. Not worth splitting hairs. It's more fun with "challenging" ones since they don't get solved quickly and everyone has a chance to take a shot at them. Who will volunteer to do the next?
