The truth about rape statistics

Frankly,
debates like these just serve (?) only one purpose - distraction.
Distract everyone from the real issues of Law & Order and improving
police efficiency and instead push everyone into a bloodfest whereby we
all get at each others throats. By getting trapped in debates like these
we do a grave disservice to our country, our society and above all, our
women.
I shall quote some statistics.
Rape statistics, as compiled by the U.N., are recorded as number of
rapes per a population of 100,000. The statistics - and these are
compiled by the U.N. after consultations with local law enforcements of
countries and not by me - are, 27.3 in USA, 28.8 in UK and 1.8 in India.
Of course, rape is under-reported in India but it is highly
under-reported in the U.S. as well. The underreported percentage is very
high, in the high 80 percentages, in America. Even if you multiply the
Indian stats by a factor of 10 - too high an adjustment factor anyway -
to give the benefit of doubt to people who say India is the world's
rape capital, then also India records lesser rapes than the U.S. and the
West.
During the recently solved Rochdale sex abuse case in U.K. the police
turned away the rape victims initially because they had what the police
thought some "sexual history". Police insensitivity is also as
prevalent in the West as it is in India. Apart from this, there have
been cases of locker room sex abuse of girls by high school football
players in America where the girl was asked to shut up by the school and
team authorities.
Now let me come to misogyny in the West. Girls are pressurized by pop
culture and society to sexualize themselves even before hitting
puberty. Sexual commodification of women permeates every part of
American popular culture from rap songs and hip hop videos to movies and
TV shows. And yeah, professional sports. White American girls - and
especially blondes - are treated as nothing but sex toys of American
professional sports - NBA, NFL, NHL. Many girls get date raped by their
own boyfriends and they rarely report. There are many many cases of gang
rape in college dorms where the girl was drugged and raped by her
classmates. Case in point - very recent Steubenville, Ohio. And contrary
to what the pseudo feminists claim in their Op-Eds of how easy it is to
walk around America wearing skimpy clothes and how hard it is in Delhi,
the truth is most women in America take precautions and avoid going to
certain areas after dark or walking alone through certain streets,
unaccompanied, skimpy skirts or no skimpy skirts. There are fatal
muggings, kidnappings and yes, rapes. The truth is that men and women
have almost the same instincts almost everywhere. And, one has to take
precautions because, the hard and cold reality is that it's better to be
safe than end up as a statistic in a cruel and selfish world.
But there is a bigger reason why you see these India baiting Op-Eds.
It's something called Neo Imperialism. The White Man sees that it's now
too politically incorrect - and he himself invented the political
correctness doctrine - to say that the brown natives, heathens and
pagans follow an inferior culture. So, now he uses the propaganda arms
of his culture - and he has enough, my friends - to show that India is a
bestial civilization of caste, curry, cow and now, rape. If you notice,
most of these kind of articles which claim Indians have an innate gene
for raping, are actually appearing in Western media and magazines and
their Macaulyte orphans and liberal ayatollahs in India.
Of course, misogyny or equal or higher frequency of rapes in the West
does not mean we turn our backs on our women who do suffer a lot. But
that will be inspired by Indian social reformers who understand India
and Her Ethos. And NOT a bunch of gutter inspectors from the West who go
around smelling drains in this country just so that they could say
India stinks.
I wait for the day when India will be proud enough to hold its head
high and give a fitting reply to the Western world's dirty tricks, its
hypocrisy and its cleverly veiled racism. When oh when will that day
come?

While the stats may be true, it is also true that a woman will feel more afraid to walk alone in Delhi than in NYC or Philly. More likely, the cops will catch the guy, will not treat the woman shabbily, accuse her instead, and most likely when the rapists are caught they will be tried within 1 or 2 years - except in cases where a Kennedy is involved.

That in itself gives a perception of a safer environment and protection.
